I am a fastback guy but have a krate question to see if same as fastbacks. Did the early krates have reflector hangers or tab on seat for reflector. I am going to try and finish my old "real" krate this year. A 68 Lemon Peeler.

I know "Rick" when it warms up I owe you a pic of the repo keate lineup with the made "BlueBerry".  I still need to find a 99 grape to complete my set of repos.

Just a couple of pics. I should add my muscle bikes to gallery but was hoping other would add some.  Start with black fastback, custom black ray and custom lime picker. We seem to be a lightweight forum(lol).

Ric 68 Krates had wire hangers for the rear reflectors. I still need toget a few of my stingrays and my old school bmx bikes out of storage and take pictures of them. Theres always so much to do and not enough time to do it in. LOL

Ric,
Real nice stable of ponies you have there,I haven't been on a real krate bike in tons of time and would eventually like to pick one up.Can you actually ride one of the old muscle bikes and be comfortable say for 20mi or is that seat gonna make "whistle dixie"in a hurry even if you have a springer front end and shock sissy bar?Would like to hear from you and others with  their view point and comments.
                                                                                                                                                         Cheers

Hey Ric, aka Fastback Maniac. How many Fastbacks do you have left in your collection? How about posting some pics?

Thats funny, I'm in the process of restoring my 68 Lemon right now also. The Frame is at the sandblasters right now and I just ordered the decals for it last week. It will be a while before I do anymore to it as I have two other projects that i'm working on right now.

A friend participated in the "Ride the Rockies" bicycle run in June and noted someone completed the event on a Schwinn Krate. Daily rides for the seven day event can be as short as 35 miles or as long as 100 miles, but generally average 60-65 miles per day and include challenging mountain climbs. My friend had difficulty with the mountain climbs on his high end titanium road bike and couldn't imagine how difficult the ride would be on a much heavier 40 year old muscle bike yet the Krate rider completed each day’s event.

If anyone knows who the Krate rider is, I’d like to buy that guy a much deserved drink for putting "MUSCLE" into the term "Muscle Bike."

Hey Ric,  All original 67-73 Krates had seat tabs from the factory... However when you went to the dealer for a replacement seat in the 60's-70's more than likely it would not have a tab welded on but would be set up for a wire hanger since the seats with tabs would cause damage to the seat underneath it during storage and shipping.

I had one of the earliest Orange Krates from a 1967 first production run of 1000.  It DEFINITELY had a welded on reflector tab, and NOT a wire hanger!

Wire hangers came on replacement seats. Welded on tabs came on new bikes. I sold them when they were current models.
Replacement seats were packed 12 to a box & were stacked in simliar to eggs in a carton with dividers. welded on tabs would
have caused damage to the adjoining seat.
