Peugeot PX10 (LE?) -- anyone remember these?
« on: June 26, 2011, 02:46:27 PM »
This bike caught my attention while biking this morning.  Offered the seller my ipod as a deposit until I could come back with cash and a vehicle, but he graciously held it until my return.

Looks like a 74 Peugeot PX10, possibly LE.  Full 531 butted frame (slanted 531 on what's left of the decal).  Nice Stronglight crank.  Came with two wheelsets, clincher and tubular -- clinchers shown here.

Bob, I believe you're partial to these....

Resized in Photoshop, but I'm well underneath the 190KB limit on each.

I have my Nikon DSLR set to capture fairly large images (2000x3000 pixels, 300 pixels/in.).  In Photoshop, set JPEG compression to zero, then Image > Image Size > resized height/width from 2000x3000 to 1500x2256 to fit underneath the 190KB limit.

I forget what the LE means. Something to do with whether the wheels are tubular or clincher I think.

Here is mine with clincher wheels.

Very nice.  Fancier lugs, and I love that color blue.

Nice find!

I really like Eric's blue one as well.  The non-white versions are pretty scarce.

I bought one of these new in 1975 at the age of 15.  It came with tubular wheels (wired and soldered spokes), but I left those with the bike shop and had some clinchers built up.

Mine had the plain Nervex lugs, but they were white with gold outlining.  The stem was more modern (sunken Allen head bolt) ... Atax maybe?  The decals on mine were a bit more modern as well.  The rest seems to be the same.

The Reynolds decal was in French and on the downtube.

I had this bike about 10 years.

Quite a few years later I was given a '75 Peugeot (PR-10?) that was black and didn't have chrome on the rear stays, but was built with '531'.

There is something about the ride of these bikes that I just love.  Maybe it has something to do with the metric sizing of the frame tubes.

I'd like to replace it someday, but it's not high on my list.

Congrats on your find.  Ride the heck out of it!

I can't ride it.  I'm 5'4 and this puppy's a 23", which puts it way out of my league.  Ever come to Wisconsin?

There is one of them up at College sitting behind a dorm.   Its so well hidden I only saw it after a year of being up there.     I thought about it but I am a Schwinn Collector and its shot.

It's been known to happen.   :)

I don't know the story on the non-white models.  I think I recall seeing a red '70s era one as well.

The early one's that are blue with yellow lugs are very cool.

Nice find on the PX10. I wouldn't mind a higher quailty Peugeot, I have a '78 UO-9. I've been thinking about buying this PRN10 but I have too many irons going right now.

Love that era Peugeot. I had an orange one that I put a boatload of miles on from the late 70's to mid 80's and am in the market for one.
