Here is one I did in powder coating, I did clean out where the bearing cups insert and seat post with a dremel, otherwise you take a chance of chipping.  :) Jeff

Jeff,
That is some nice work your doing ! Are you repainting them or is that new vinyl ?
And the fact that I need to ask that should tell you how good of a job I think your doing ?

I just found the link to where you explain the seat work
http://www.schwinnbikeforum.com/index.php?topic=3228.msg21894;boardseen#new

I was going to say I found your link to your secrets on doing it, I must admit you freely give out advice
And the details you do on your restorations (so I guess it's no secret) That info is great (thanks) even after reading that post I still doubt if I would have the patience required to do such beautiful work.

I might have to ask in the future if I can get you to do me a seat.

Wow! That seat restoration is gorgeous. And I can tell you putting those frame decals on is trickier than you'd think. I was putting a new top tube 'schwinn' logo on mine. I slid it into position and I immediately tried to straighten it just a hair, but that thing had already started to stick! I split the decal into two pieces but managed to get it to move with more water and a soft paint brush. I'll be more careful next time.

The seat came out FANTASTIC!!!!

Putting the decals on can be VERY Difficult.  When I was doing my Super Sport I tore one of the origionals. The ones I had made... (all of them in the pictures) were alot less difficult to apply.  I had the guy that Powder Coated the frame do these.  I am glad I did.  He told me that these were hard to do because they were VERY Thin.

FWIW, decals should be placed in warm water for not more than 30 seconds. Then they should be set aside to soak up the water for 5 more minutes. Next you can put a little water on the frame and begin to slide the decal off the paper, just enough to begin to stick it to the frame. Once it's lined up, hold the end of the decal to the frame and begin pulling the paper out from under it, pressing out bubbles etc. as you go. Use a rubber squeegee to smooth it. For stubborn bubbles, puncture the decal a little with an exacto knife to let the air out.

On very old or very thin decals, you can add lacquer which is what they are made of. Spray on a couple of light coats, letting them dry. Then spray on a full flow coat. Let that dry completely. Now you have a problem of lacquer over the edges and the decal won't slide off so you have to trim the very edges of the paper. I use scissors. This is really important with vintage 50 year old decals, otherwise they will shatter when you try to apply them. The new lacquer will solve that.

Jeff, I think you are right, that is the best part.  The fenders need a bit more polishing....  They are not up to the quality of the seat. But....  With the seat... No one will notice the fender scratches... ::)

I moved forward a bit.  I am not quite happy with the runout on the front and Rear wheel.  I will run them by the LBS and have my buddy Todd do his magic! ;D

Other than that I am pretty happy with the way it is comming along.  I put some "Bling" on while I am waiting to take the wheels to Todd.
