New 2 me Schwinn Le Tour Luxe
« on: May 18, 2017, 12:31:30 PM »
Well simple title says it all. It was free and needs a lot of work. The paint is shot, half sun faded from the top down, and the sun is no joke in the Nevada desert. Tires were dry rotted to death, has original brake pads, hard as rock, and all the cables are hooked up still. So far I've only just wd40's the bits to get them moving but the chain is beyond redoing and I can't get the back wheel hub off just yet.

She's a light blue with Schwinn Chicago on the badge but the serial number is kind of odd. I see SK403299. Owner said it was a 1984 le tour luxe. I have the book rack on the back and 18 speeds from what I see. Has Suntour mountech front and rear derailers, has SAKAE CX on the front sprocket

I feel that I have to sand blast this beast and powder coat it to bring it back to life. She'll become my new daily ride to work, switching jobs so no more 40+ mile round trips to work, just a simple 8 miles.

Photobucket isn't working on my phone now so pics later for sure. Any thoughts on what I have just by serial number?

If I'm reading the tea leaves right, the "4" means 1984 and the "K' eguals 11, aka November. Really depends on what the bike looks like... I'm thinking with the light blue however, probably an '85. Post pictures, then we'll know for sure.
