Atom Drum Brake Replacement Pads
« on: April 28, 2017, 02:53:20 PM »
Hello still new here. But after coming across a 79 Spitfire 5 with rear Atom Drum brake. I know original pads are no longer made. But after some extensive research. I found out you can use moped brake pads size 80mm x 18mm. These are the same size in the two Atom Drum brakes I own. You can get a set online for about $15 shipped. They are EBC322  brake shoe set, 80 x 18mm, Leleu, “open” style, coil springs( R 1955-1980 Schwinn Tandem (w/drum brake) Atom spoke 1). They will have (254  36), stamped on each one. So DO NOT Purchase one's from the guy on e-***, that is selling the exact same thing for $69.95 plus shipping. Have fun!!! Make sure they look like the image included.

A few years ago, I found a company in the Twin Cities that does brake relining for vintage vehicles.  Any size could be done according to them.  Well, my book mark is a dead link now. But google "vintage brake relining" and there are lots of hits.  Lots of auto places still do bonded and riveted pads and can turn them round.

Has anyone ever wore out their Atom brake pads?  All the tandems I've seen had low miles and lots of rust/dust.
