Tried to ride the 92 Paramount  today unfortunately it didn't want to cooperate and sucked a derailleur into the wheel after a mile.  Lucky I wasnt 10 mi from the house.

So I went home and took the competition a  Tx 900 Trek.

Nice Paramount and Trek. Bad when derailleurs and wheels mix. Is the wheel fixable with a few spokes it more serious?

Alpina spokes 1 no bends no gouges,  Campy chorus derailleur 0  toast,  Shimano derailleur hanger mangled but realigned ok. No clue as to the cause as it was running on one of the middle sprockets

It looks like the Trek has a Columbus tubing sticker.  No bottle mounts or brake cable guides.

bartcycle you would be correct  Trek's top of the line in 1978, Columbus SL tubing, and whoever ordered it didn't spend the extra 10% to get the braze on option

We finally had a day of sunshine, so I was able to get a ride in after work. I love my vintage bikes, but just under 19 miles on the Giant Defy 1 went by quickly and painlessly. Much better on the hills than anything else I own.

Tomorrow, back to the rain for a couple more days.  :(

Eric94TA, that Runabout looks nice! I'm not sure I've seen one before. The angles look as relaxed as the Varsity but with the swept back bars. How do you like the ride as opposed to the drop bars?

I've been thinking about getting a Suburban as it seems like a similar idea, Varsity frame but with a more upright configuration.

Hi Nick, the Runabout is a '77 only machine, factory bars are below.

I couldn't stand them so replaced them with the quintessential Schwinn tourist bars. This bike has the same geometry as the Suburban/Varsity/Continental. Has a Tange tubular fork, it rides like a Suburban (like a dream).

72 Kool Lemon Collegiate "Old Yeller"
74 Opaque Blue Suburban ST 5-speed "Baloo"
77 Sunset Orange Runabout "Orange Crush"

77 Sunset Orange Runabouts ST, (project)
78 Flamboyant Red Varsity (project)
78 Sky Blue Breeze (project)

Don, do you have to tie that thing down when you're not on it? It looks like a stiff breeze would blow it away!  ;D   ;)

First ride on the 1986 Cilo, 25 miles on the Ashuwillticook Rail-Trail in northwestern MA. Temperatures were in the 60's with plenty of sunshine.

When did you get a Cilo, Tad?  Didn't realize you had a Swiss bike in the collection!
