Best size tube and rim strips for Schwinn 26" S-7 rims??
« on: July 19, 2015, 10:35:28 AM »
OK this is a total Newbie question :o
I know all about the special Schwinn S-7 tire size.  What is the best tube and rim strip size?
I've heard a 26" standard mtn. Bike tube will fit, but should I get the 26" x 1.5-1.75 or the wider 1.75-2.125?
For rim strips would a 26 x 1.75 work that is 16mm wide?

'71 Super Sport - yellow ladies

While others may have differing opinions, I use standard 26 x 1.95/2.125 tubes, and I prefer 26" X 20mm rim strips, as the rim strips are wide enough to do a nice job of protecting the tubes on the inside. The tubes that are made today are not quite as thick or heavy as the tubes made when the bikes were new, and it gives a bit better protection against thorns and such, as well as dry rot after a few years. I've had no problems with this yet, and have quite a few that are set up in this manner. Again - this is my OPINION... not a dead set thing. The purest in me says this is WRONG, but I can always get him to shut up.

Good luck with yours!
