What style speedometer would a 1965 American use?

That would be a Schwinn Approved speedo made by Stewart-Warner. This eBay auction listing of mine (full disclosure) is what it looks like:

A Stewart-Warner Cadet model would be contemporary, too; it's actually the same as the Schwinn unit, but with a different case color and dial design.

The smaller, squarish, chrome Schwinn Approved speedos from Huret of France did not appear until 1968.
