My Beloved 1956 Corvette - What To Do?
« on: March 30, 2014, 11:42:53 AM »
I have a perfect rider grade 1956 Corvette 3 Speed.  I just added the working Miller generator light set. Brightwork is nice, wheels are nice, but the paint is challenged.  With the period Brooks B66, the bike is my favorite rider. Part of me is tempted to get the frame  and chainguard powder coated.  Thoughts?  Would I be reducing its value if I power coated, or is my paint bad enough that it would improve the value?

I would leave it as is. I call all the dings and scratches patina.
Nice looking bike.

I you get too discouraged with it I have room in the garage for it.  Ha Ha

Maybe just an upgrade on the chainguard and forks.  Clean graphics and no scrapes/scars always improve the eye appeal.  Plus, with bolt-ons, you can always take it back to 100% original if you or a future buyer wish.  As an added plus, it think the bolt-on improvements would be less expensive.  Just one man's opinion.  Nice bike by the way.  Middleweights are my favorites!

Its only original once. I have done both and I like both styles The patina look is my favorite but I also love to restore them so I say its your bike and for you to do what you want to but I would paint and not powdercoat it you do decide to freshen it up. Just my two cents. PS I think it looks great as is.
