1951 one owner Black Panther
« on: March 07, 2013, 06:54:29 AM »
I just picked this up last week.
Pretty rare front Schwinn caliper brakes on this model.
Even though the owner used it for a paper route every day, the bike is in very good shape. ( the basket protected the Delta light! )
Only thing not original to the bike was the two mis-match blackwalls. ( Sears and a Gillette )
She is already cleaned up sporting a new set of whitewalls!
Thanks to the Fender Doctor for fixing the broken pin on the cyclelock.
Enjoy!

Greg M.

Are those streamers original to this bike? I've seen others with these also.

sweet score.i actually like a panther better than a phantom.the straightbars are just cooler looking to me.
can you imagine pedaling that tank up a hill with a load of newspapers?kids were tougher and in better shape back then for sure.

I agree. But there's something sweet about that integrated fender light on the Phantoms.

Wow! Don't remember about standard, but seems we all had streamers on ballooners in the 40's and early 50's. Nice, nice score. My paper route bikes never stayed that nice, but I rode them hard. Had a friend who had one that nice, and he used it on paper routes. But he didn't ride all that much otherwise, except gently in the neighborhood. Wonder where that bike is now?

Wow!  You're a lucky guy.  Great bike.

Thank you!
I have had quite a run of luck lately. The Autocycle Super Deluxe, this Panther, and in between those bikes I picked up a 1936 Scwhinn catalog with the original letter that Schwinn sent with the catalog plus a C model wiring diagram all in mint condition off of local C/L for $20.
I am counting my blessings as there are long dry spells some times between the "finds".
Here are some pictures of that catalog and letter.
Thanks again.

OK ... that winged Schwinn logo on the cover?  Could be a future tattoo ...  ;D

You need to scan and share that catalog!

Congrats,

Bob

Greg,

Pic appears to be part of the cover letter.

I was thinking outer part of right leg just above the knee.  :)
