Here's a pic of my GT 510 which must be very similar showing the spring in question. I believe that it's called the pulley cage spring.

That's the chain tension spring. It keeps the outer cage tension on the chain.

They nailed it.

When they blow apart they are a pain the rear to put back together.

That's what I thought it was, does anyone know if it will work on the GT200 or the old Sprint??

The older GT 200 & Sprint use #20440, according to the 1972 Schwinn parts book. I don't know if its close enough or not. We do have (4) of 20437
