I've never posted before, my apologies.  I am uncertain the worth of my wife's old Mtn Bike.  It's from about 1990.  We used to ride often, untill she was in an auto accident.  We always hoped she would get well enough to ride again.  It's been 15 years.  We've given up on that finally.  So now I'm curious what it's worth before I put it up for sale.  16" frame Schwinn Essence

thanks in advance,

Sorry to hear that your wife can no longer ride.   Sad

I'd guess that the bike's an '88 model from the decal style.  Check the headbadge for a light, four-digit stamping.  The first three will be the ordinal day of the year and the last the last digit of the year of assembly.  For example, '1228' would be the 122nd day of 1988.

The bike looks to be in pristine condition, but, unfortuately, there is not much of a market for "mid-vintage/mid-level" Schwinn mountain bikes.  It would probably bring around $150 or so.

Love the color though!  I would think the new owner would be proud to have it.

Best of luck,

Bob

Thank you for the quick reply.

it is near pristine and been sitting in a dry basement fo quite some time.  Youe estimate is more than I expected which makes me glad I asked first.

I also asked about my schwinn traveler in another section, If you could help with that too I'd be quite grateful.

That know means the bike is a priceless family heirloom.  I hope she will enjoy it and that your wife will make progress from her injuries.

I am looking at buying a Schwinn Essence.  The numbers by the headbadge are 0430.  Does that mean it was made in 1990? I saw a response earlier that said that number refers to the day of the year (43rd day) and that the last digit was the year.  Also, will this 20 year old bike hold up for many more years if it is in good condition.  I was wondering what they sold for originally also. Thanks!
