Midnight Bike Ride in '90-ish. Only other old bike there, was a stingray.
The guy (from Buck's Bikes) saw mine, and proclaimed we *must* ride together!
First time riding non-flat surface, discovered brakes were fossilized (D'oh!),
squealing down a slight hill at 3am. I'm *standing* on the pedals trying to
slow down, trying not to scream in quiet neighborhood. Leveled-out, finally.
Next day, off to University Schwinn. Baby needed new shoes.

Here is my 56 Hornet. This is the first year as a Middleweight. The only year for a straight bar Hornet middleweight.

Love the old Schwinn's!

Beautiful.  I love that scheme- the white on red.

Here's my 53. I got it for my dad 25 years ago as a project. It was spray painted red (everything including the wheels and chrome). My dad had the fork, wheels and handle bars chromed. He had the frame stripped and did a quick black rattle can paint job. I can't remember where I got the chain guard. The fenders were missing (along with the rack, tank and chain guard).

OK, Here's the one I did a few years back. I don't know if this qualifies as it was not done back to its original form, but to what was going on in my head at the time.

One shot as bought, one shot after resto-modification.

If this is inappropriate for that reason, I'll delete the post as requested.

REC, I like it.  The chrome and whitewalls add just enough contrast to all of the black.  A question for you.  Is the front drum brake an old (and expensive) schwinn item, or something newer?  I'm looking for ideas on a future build. Thx.

Thank you for reading the post and for your comments.

The front brake is a later model piece. I did not want to go with original stuff there as there are others doing legitimate restorations that would be looking for them at that "higher suggested retail" price. I spent too much on other stuff and this was the only way to go on a shoestring budget at the time. (photo of wheel below)

Also noted (and really appreciated) the comment on "all the black." Perfect! It worked. It isn't really all black, but the intent was that from a few feet away I wanted it to look that way. My friend who painted it, advised after the next one done with the same idea, I would be responsible for his next appointment with the eye doctor due to the strain of trying to do the striping on the break line of the colors. The other one is a Cycle-Truck that is done with black and black metallic. It DEFINITELY looks all black from even just a couple of feet, but when the sun hits the metallic, it comes to life very well - as does this one.

See the photos below to see what is really there.
